In a cozy hillside hamlet, the monthly "Day of the Good Gourd" is a time of joy and communal feasting. However, when a single gourd goes missing, the town’s peace is shattered. Desperate to catch the "thief," the villagers hire "Good Gourd Guards," but the gourds continue to vanish. This leads to an absurd escalation where they hire guards to guard the guards, and then even more guards to watch those guards. Suspicion poisons the community, turning once-friendly neighbors into distrustful strangers who lock their doors and stop speaking. On the eve of the festival, while the entire town is in the patch accusing one another, a giant gourd begins to tremble and crumble.
