The 1986 Miami Dade FBI Shootout occurred on April 11, 1986 when a small group of field agents for the FBI attempted to apprehend William Russell Matix and Michael Lee Platt, who were suspected of committing a series of violent crimes in and around the Miami metropolitan area. The incident is known as one of the worst days in FBI and Law Enforcement history and is often studied in Law Enforcement Training. The aftermath of this day involved a complete overhaul of the training, techniques, equipment, and weapons that would be issued to Law Enforcement Members across the nation.
