Erika is a Costa Rican American artist, filmmaker, and curator whose work spans photography, film, design, and AI-assisted art. Born in Costa Rica and raised in the United States, Erika's artistic journey is as diverse as her heritage. She pursued degrees in fine art, anthropology, and Spanish at Lawrence University, followed by studies at Parsons School of Design, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and the New York Film Academy. Her career includes roles as an art director for prominent brands like Martha Stewart Living, Tiffany & Co., and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A significant aspect of Erika's work involves her collaborations with the Hopi tribe, focusing on fine art photography that captures the essence of their culture and history. Additionally, she explores AI-assisted "post-photographic" artwork, blending traditional photography with cutting-edge technology to create unique visual experiences. Sierra is an accomplished artist and creative technologist, best known for her imaginative use of digital art and generative AI to illustrate the Black experience in the Americas, West Africa, and beyond. Her evocative works often explore wonder, nostalgia, introspection, and the intimacy of bonds within both born and chosen families. Beyond her independent arts practice, Juu Juu Mama has merged her talents in community organizing, advocacy, and the arts as the founder and chief curator of @itan_world. “Ìtàn” translates to “story” or “history” in Yoruba. After discovering her father's family descended from Yorubaland, West Africa (Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Cameroon), she became fascinated with its history, culture, music, and fashion. Since founding Ìtàn World in September 2023 to spotlight underrepresented West African artists, Juu Juu Mama has curated over 175 artists and counting from West Africa and of African descent into virtual and real world exhibitions.
