Controlling anger and regulating our emotions are both so important for quality communication in relationships to flow. If we can remain calm, understand how to best use positive tones, stay in a controlled state of calm, and express ourselves without allowing our emotions to escalate to the point of anger or rage, we are in a sweet spot for communicating positively. The goal is always to express our feelings, but feel safe to do that! Safety to share thoughts and feelings is a big problem in relationships, so if we can correct this, and offer our partners listening, really focus on their being the problem holder, and we can validate, understand, and support them, it goes a long way in making our partner feel understood and supported!
