She studied craniofacial anomalies and went on volunteer missions treating patients with facial deformities in Nepal, Chile, and Argentina. She also taught dentistry at Trinity College in Ireland. Leading orthodontists trained her—Bill Profit, Jim MacNamara, and Vince Kokich— at the University of North Carolina, the University of Michigan, and later, the University of Washington.
