The Unbecoming of Margaret Wolf is a queer fiction novel by Isa Arsén, published in 2025.

Margaret Wolf is a young actress trying to make a name for herself in the New York City theater scene in the 1950s. She escapes a difficult past and finds love and success with her husband, Wesley Shoard, a fellow actor. But Margaret’s world is turned upside down when she is offered the role of Lady Macbeth in a summer stock production of Macbeth in New Mexico.

The production is fraught with danger and intrigue, and Margaret finds herself caught in a web of secrets and lies. She also begins a passionate affair with the costume designer, Felix Haas, who introduces her to a world of drugs and pleasure. As Margaret’s life spirals out of control, she must confront her past and make a choice about her future.
