The Emilia Plater Independent Women's Battalion was a pioneering all-female Polish military unit established in 1943 within the Soviet First Polish Army. Named after a legendary female revolutionary, the group consisted of Polish deportees and volunteers who sought to contribute to the war effort against Nazi Germany. Although originally intended for front-line combat, the battalion was primarily assigned to sentry duties, policing, and medical support throughout World War II. The unit is notable for producing the only non-Soviet woman to receive the Gold Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Aniela Krzywoń.
