In 1 Chronicles 25 lots were also cast for musicians as they were for priests. And there were also 24 groups of musicians rostered on at the temple.

All the musicians were descendants of three men, Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman. Of the 24 groups, 4 came from Asaph, 6 from Jeduthun and 14 from Heman. Asaph is the same as the Asaph of the psalms.

This chapter says they were rostered on to “prophesy” with stringed instruments, but how? Matthew Henry says it is because they were singing the words of prophecies written by the prophets.
