Episode notes
The prediction market Kalshi has officially suspended and fined three U.S. congressional candidates for what it calls "political insider trading." In a first-of-its-kind crackdown, Kalshi’s internal probe revealed that candidates Matt Klein (D-MN), Ezekiel Enriquez (R-TX), and Mark Moran (I-VA) placed wagers on the outcomes of their own campaigns. While Klein and Enriquez placed small bets (under $100) and settled for fines around $500–$800, independent candidate Mark Moran—a former reality TV contestant—was fined over $6,200 after claiming he "wanted to get caught" to highlight flaws in the system. All three are now banned from the platform for five years as regulators and lawmakers push for stricter controls on the burgeoning $400 million election-betting industry.
