James is an author, a journalist, but first and foremost a West Ham United fan. His book 1312: Among the Ultras was released at the start of the pandemic. Over the last year and a half, he and a number of writers put together The Away Leg: XI stories from on the road to give fans the chance to remember what it was like to travel for football matches. All proceeds for the book go to Community Integrated Care.
