In late February, OpenAI—the company behind ChatGPT—signed a deal with the U.S. Department of Defense to deploy its AI models in classified military networks. Just hours before, Anthropic, the company that makes Claude—another popular AI chatbot—refused the same Pentagon deal because they couldn't get assurances that their AI wouldn't be used for autonomous weapons or mass surveillance of American citizens. And the internet absolutely exploded with the grassroots campaign called QuitGPT forming.
