The Example of the Kingdom - Jordan Baker

In our second week of looking at the book of Mark, Jordan shared how Mark introduces the kingdom of God by first introducing John the Baptist. Before Jesus begins proclaiming the good news, John embodies what this new kingdom looks like in everyday life. His life reveals three defining characteristics of kingdom people: they understand they are part of a greater story, they live differently from the surrounding culture, and they carry a posture of humility. In contrast to Rome’s power-driven, self-promoting values, John lives simply, points away from himself, and prepares the way for Jesus.
