Manolo Sanlúcar transformed the flamenco guitar into an Andalucian symphony but always retained its roots. He came from a family of bakers but ended up being admired internationally. His fans include big names such as the Spanish Prime Minister Felipe González, the film star Omar Shariff and opera singer Montserrat Caballé. The rumba is now part of the repertoire of all flamenco artists. Even though it originated in Cuba, the various Gypsy groups including the Amayas, Ojos de Brujo, and the Gypsy Kings have popularised the form across the world and today’s young guitarist continue to compose new rumbas. And let's not forget a very high point - the release of Entre dos Aguas by Paco de Lucía.
