Is Nuclear Power Worth the Risk? A Friendly Science Chat

Chat with Greg Fridman by Gregory Fridman

Episode notes

A viewer commented that nuclear power is important despite the risks, so let’s talk about it.

In this video, I give my personal take on nuclear energy compared with coal, natural gas, solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and the long-promised dream of fusion. Nuclear power is not perfect, but compared with many other electricity sources, I think it deserves a much more serious and less fear-driven conversation.

I talk about safety, regulation, nuclear waste, the limits of solar and wind where I live in Ohio, the growing electricity demand from data centers, and why small nuclear reactors could be very interesting if we want reliable power without massive transmission losses.

This is not my technical specialty, so consider this a casual science conversation over coffee, beer, whiskey, or Pepsi. If I got something wrong, or if you have ...
