The recall includes 2020-2022 Ford Escape and 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport models equipped with 1.5-liter engines.
The primary defect is a cracked fuel injector, which can cause fuel to leak. This leaked fuel, if it comes into contact with a hot surface like a turbocharger or exhaust manifold, could start a fire.
Only 0.3% of the recalled vehicles are estimated to be affected by the defective fuel injectors.
The two immediate warning signs an owner might observe are a gasoline smell and, if a fire occurs, smoke billowing from underneath the hood along with a warning in the instrument cluster.
