Ademola contacted me some months ago to say that he might be visiting Berlin for a conference as a guest of the German foreign ministry. A few weeks ago Ademola and a group of African activists from different African nations came to Berlin and then Hamburg to meet with politicians, civil servants, lecturers and journalists. Their purpose was to discuss the legacy of German colonialism and in particular the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885.
In this episode that we recorded on November 15th, the anniversary of the start of the Berlin Conference some 141 years ago, we talk about this recent trip, the discussions and experiences and about the importance of addressing the continued false narratives.
