Trade agreements, economic structures and political manoeuvrings have dictated the flow of resources from certain areas without the fair renumeration of funds in return. The systems that were established to exploit resources, to encourage corruption where possible, but to violently put down non-corruptible government are simply examples of the west’s handbook. We are familiar with concepts of capitalism, and this is OK because capitalism isn’t always exploitative. We are familiar with corporatism and that also doesn’t appear to be too bad as we benefit from the work of corporates. Yet what underpins these ideas of normalcy is the exploitation of someone, something or somewhere always a little further from sight of the consumer.
