Realizing he has somehow traveled to an entirely different world, Enchanter Gaiwan wrangles with adjusting to the unusual environment and its surroundings. On his request, Paul takes him on a tour of the campus as they seek Marie and the teacher she is meeting. Synchronicity intervenes and, amidst worries that his powers might be ineffectual in this world, Gaiwan discovers a seriously disturbing problem, perhaps the cause of all that is wrong with Paul.
