The Enlightenment and Neoclassical Art

The Art Story Podcast by The Art Story

Episode notes

Dani Fallon and Rob Weinberg explore how an entire style of art and architecture evolved during a period known as the Enlightenment, or the ‘Age of Reason’. Neoclassicism arose in a time of scientific and industrial innovation and political change, when big questions were being asked about traditional power structures. At the same time, the discovery of the ancient ruins inspired Neoclassicists to give to their own work the realism, beauty, and simpler symmetry of the Greeks and Romans.
