Rebranding SafetyExplicit

by James MacPherson

A Health and Safety Podcast, boring and complicated right? Nah. It’s the only source of H&S guidance that isn’t boring, or over the top, it’s my personal battle against Health and Safety gone mad. I have been described as a hip young gunslinger of a host and a guy that knows his onions . The podcast has been described as motivating, entertaining, hip and cool, rough and ready, refreshing, funny, interesting, opinionated. I ...   ...  Read more

'That' Hi Vis post - The Rebranding Safety Show

    Explicit

Not to dwell on the past but....... Here's a conversation between James and Elisa Lynch 🍉 about a post that went pretty viral here on LinkedIn back in May. This was recorded on the day (we're on podcast publishing catch up! 😖) and the frustrations are live! The post itself was regarding a cut Hi Vis and the responding approach taken by the safety professional on site. In discussing their thoughts on the approach taken, James and Elisa touch on: The condescending, gender and bragging elements, the technical safety element, how might new safety professionals view this? Is LinkedIn the right place to be having these conversations? Is there an alternative? What is the context of the approach and do we consider it enough? Echo chambers and safety culture on site. Listener question: "What do we need to do to prevent health and safety being a thankless task?" Thanks to Stephen Murray! Do you need help with this stuff? Join James and Peter where they chat about society and community and its relationship with work and safety. They discuss mental health, sharing mistakes and whether or not we need more 'community' as well as where/how we can find it - if at all...... The question from one of our amazing listeners this week... Q: How can big organisations assist the companies who don't have proper safety management systems, particularly in countries within Africa and Asia? Answer includes: Introspection, parameter setting, cohesive vs isolated decision making, think outside safety, and when you hear hooves, think horses not zebras! Do you need help with this stuff? Can safety be fun? - The Rebranding Safety Show

    Explicit

It's a mixed bag this week...... James and Peter discuss gamification and how in making the communication of safety fun, we can ingrain a stronger message. Also, what does it mean to work and how we can tie this to health and safety initiatives, plus a call to action: We're crowdsourcing problems! If you have a specific problem in the world of safety or risk management that you're trying to navigate/'hack' let us know. We can then use these as problem statements in any upcoming 'Hackathons' which is where we will put together an immersive workshop to try to find a solution to this problem. Drop us a line and maybe we can 'hack' your issue, and let us know if you'd be interested in coming along to the next one!

We're not necessarily talking about the people, the books, the podcasts etc...... but what examples from real life experiences have we taken and adapted to use in our roles as safety professionals? What have we pulled from our hobbies and past times? Our quirky interests? (holla Pete and his torches!) We big time get into gamification and how we use it to communicate a message, as well as critical thinking and being advocates for just 'trying shit!" Enjoy.....
