Episode notes
“Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.” John 19:32-34In piercing the pericardium, that sack which surrounds the heart, they released the water. We now know that in times of extreme grief and sorrow, the pericardium will fill with water. I think it has been accurately said that though Christ did not die from a broken heart, He died with a broken heart.
