Minnesota Weather March 5 Morning - Special Weather Statement
Good morning. Minnesota. I'm Aaron Jolly. If you stepped outside at sunrise, you probably couldn't see much past your driveway. Dense fog has swallowed central Minnesota whole this morning, thick enough to earn us advisories until noon. We're sitting at 40 degrees under that murky blanket. Up near Duluth and the North Shore, freezing drizzle is turning roads into skating rinks. Take it slow up there. In the next 24 hours. Now here's where Minnesota gets interesting today. The Twin Cities climbs to 55 degrees — that's spring-jacket weather. Southern Minnesota hits 53. But push north and it's a completely different day. Northern Minnesota barely scratches 33 degrees. That fog isn't budging. And a biting northeast wind at 15 miles an hour makes it feel like 13 this morning. Your jacket choice depends entirely on which direction you're headed. Tonight, rain arrives after 3 A.M. Lows hold in the mid-40s across the metro and south. The north stays colder, around 29. Friday's the main event. A potent storm rolls through with rain and thunderstorms — some could pack a punch, especially down south. Highs push upper 50s to low 60s. Then Friday night, cold air crashes the party and flips everything to snow. Northern areas pick up a slushy inch or two. The transition zone might see some ice mixed in. The weekend calms down. Saturday clears out with highs in the mid-40s. Sunday warms to 62. Monday could hit 65 degrees in southern Minnesota before another system arrives Tuesday with mixed precipitation and cooler air. One more thing — we're gaining over three minutes of daylight today. Spring equinox is just two weeks out. Tonight's full moon will punch through those breaking clouds if you catch it.
