Does masculinity make for better presidents? Better leaders? Better policymakers? It’s a question that the right has asked and answered. They can’t stop talking about masculinity, believing it is the only key to leadership and they have it on lock. Just go do some doom scrolling on Twitter and you’ll get more schoolyard taunts than you care to ever read. A lot of conservative men are men and liberal men are sissy boys.

But I’d really like to address a deeper issue: Masculinity doesn’t matter in leadership. Masculinity doesn't make the man.
