Reign of Fire

In 2002, Rob Bowman unleashed 'Reign of Fire' into cinemas - and sadly, it didn't set the world alight. But even though the film disappointed at the box office, I still don't think we've had a better dragon themed film release since.

Not only did the film have great characters to root for, played excellently by Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey, but it also changed the game on the Dragon design in film and media. Moving foreword, elements from these creature designs would inspire future releases such as Harry Potter and, of course, Game of Thrones.

'Reign of Fire' is such an underappreciated release that, in a way, was ahead of its time. It balances the use of special and practical effects brilliantly, which is why the film still holds up 22 years after its release.
