The Cat Lady Killer Who Married for Death

Inspector Story by Inspector Story

Episode notes

In the early 1900s, Cyclone City, Iowa, whispered about a woman named Anita Job. She lived with more than a hundred cats—and a string of husbands who never lived long after marrying her. Each time, the body was quickly cremated, no autopsy performed, and Anita inherited the fortune.

By 1922, her record raised suspicions. Detective Jim Sox was sent undercover, posing as her latest suitor. He proposed, she accepted, and he moved into her home. Inside, urns lined the walls. But when Jim looked closer, he found the urns empty—and the cat litter strangely dark. Before he could escape, Anita whispered from behind: “It’s time for you to join them.”
