May is annually designated to be Mental Health Awareness Month, and this sphere of the mind and the psyche has long been assaulted by stigma, shame, and fear. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 280 million people worldwide have depression, with over 700,000 people dying due to suicide annually. Despite the medical and scientific advancements that have produced so many life-saving treatments, both pharmacological and psychosocial interventions, more than 75% of low-income and middle-income countries do not receive any treatment. So many questions arise in this often misunderstood and mislabeled field.
