2020 was a strange time. We all stayed in our homes. Brian and Alec were doing a different show. And movies were struggling to find new ways to get made. One blooming subgenre, Screenlife, was poised by producer Timur Bekmambetov over the years as the evolution of found footage. With lockdown seemingly indefinite, he was tasked by Universal to prove that this subgenre had enough mileage in it to navigate this unforeseeable future. The resulting film was so historically awful that it came out five years later on Amazon prime after just six days of marketing. Oh boy.
