Tourism for Nepal is not just one of the sectors of the economy, but its backbone, the main source of foreign exchange and a significant source of government revenue. In 2024, its contribution to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) was estimated at approximately 6%, and according to some data reached 6.7% of GDP. In absolute figures, tourism revenue in 2023 alone amounted to $471 million. The aviation sector, which is inextricably linked to international tourism, directly generates $256.9 million in GDP and provides 12,100 jobs. When considering the multiplier effect on related industries, including tourism itself, this figure rises to an impressive $1.0 billion in GDP and 381,200 jobs.
