Dementia currently affects around six million people in the U.S. and more than 40 million worldwide, with projections indicating that cases could double in the next 30 years. As the baby boomer generation—now numbering over 70 million in the United States—continues to age, many assume that dementia rates will rise accordingly. However, new research is challenging some of these assumptions, suggesting that trends in cognitive decline may not be as straightforward as they seem.
