A key theme in the book of Deuteronomy is to love God with our whole person. Why? One reason is because He is God who has given so much for us and to us. He is worthy of all our love. But it is also because He loves us so much and doesn't want us to end up hurt, wandering, or being disciplined for chasing after empty and sinful things.
