This is a treasure of a story because it speaks to the hearts of many who would today happily be forgotten about by the authorities. Not through criminality or to avoid financial duties, but just because people are so fed up of all the oversight, control and continuous badgering. If only a few more streets could get mislaid like this, how might their value increase as a result? Not that they could ever be officially sold, but still, romantic ideals don’t always need to be grounded in reality.

Patrick William Simpson Waddington was an English actor. He was born in York in 1901 and died in York in 1987. Born into the arts as the grandson of a piano manufacturer who also managed the theatre Royal York, Patrick began his career singing before moving on to the stage, often in upper class roles and then film and TV.
