Join us as we share Marta’s incredibly touching story of her family’s escape from communist Czechoslovakia when she was 8 years old.
Driving to a refugee camp in Yugoslavia, after pretending they were going on a one-week holiday, with no chance to say a proper goodbye to family or friends. The trip to the border was fraught with the real risk of being arrested and interrogated.
After arriving in Sydney three months later, they were immediately placed on a bus and resettled in Adelaide.
