In this episode of Rural Crime we speak with Professor Hamish Maxwell-Stewart about his work on convict life in Australia, with particular attention to crime over the life-course and the role of rurality.

Biography: After graduating with a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, Hamish worked for the Welcome Unit for the History of Medicine, University of Glasgow until 1997 when he migrated to Australia. As a Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania, he co-designed the highly successful Lottery of Life exhibition which ran at Port Arthur from 1999-2018. In 2000 he was appointed to the teaching staff in the Department of History and Classics at the University of Tasmania where he worked until 2011 when he was appointed as a visiting fellow at the University of Texas.
