Catholicism proposes that Jesus, toward the end of His ministry, ordained Peter as the head of the church. They insist that he was the first pope and that his apostolic office has since been inherited by an unbroken line of Catholic leaders considered to be “the vicar of Christ in the earth” (God’s chief representative). Is this true or merely a religious tradition?
