Here the prophet Jeremiah laments the terrible state of affairs in Jerusalem and also regales in the steadfast love of God and the mercies of God which are new every morning. Many in Jerusalem fled or fought against the admonitions of God to repent and follow him - Jeremiah calls upon his countrymen not to fight with God or flee from Him but to freeze in submission to Him and enjoy renewal.
