The Apostle Peter brings the Gospel to bear on the situation of wives submitting to husbands and shows the priority in adornment to be that of the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. He draws attention to Sarah of the Old Testament as an example of this faithfulness and exhorts women to courage such as they will "not fear anything that is frightening." He exhorts husbands to recognize that they must treat their wives with honor and respect so that their prayers will not be hindered.
