The Hebrew Christians were being persecuted for their faith and along with the challenges of growing in grace and mortifying their sinful flesh - some of them turned back to the old covenant ways, openly rejecting Christ. For some, their misunderstanding of Scripture prevented them from understanding the new covenant and how Christ promised to work in their lives. They needed endurance to remain faithful and please the Lord.
