The suicide rate among young Black transgender and nonbinary individuals is alarmingly high, with recent studies showing that they are at a greater risk of taking their own lives than any other demographic. This is an issue that needs to be addressed urgently, as it is having a devastating impact on the lives of many young people in the Black community.
It’s important to understand what’s driving this increased risk of suicide among young Black transgender and nonbinary individuals. Factors such as discrimination, stigma, lack of acceptance, and bullying can all contribute to feelings of hopelessness and despair which can lead to suicidal thoughts.
