Starring Fellini's wife and muse, Giulietta Masina, as Cabiria a role she had played in the 1952 Fellini film "The White Sheik" as well.
Nights of Cabiria is Fellini's last neorealist style film, right before the surrealist avant-garde period that would create films like La Dolce Vita and 8 1/2.
Some of that has to do with where Italy was, just three years after Nights of Cabiria was released, Italy would be in the Economic Miracle that created the conditions for a film like La Dolce Vita.
