On today's show I caught up with Mustafa Shakir who is a Nigerian American multi-hyphenate artist: actor, writer, rapper, and director .Born in Winston-Salem, NC he moved to the Bronx, before a year old and then Harlem not long after, where he spent the rest of his formative years. In the days prior to committing himself to the life of an artist Mustafa was a barber, a personal trainer, marketing and advertising rep, small business owner, among other jobs he did to “hustle” as he puts it. “I had more jobs than a Jamaican.” He began his career in Theatre at The Negro Ensemble Company doing plays with the late Chuck Patterson. It was there that he was discovered by Jeff Block, casting director for New York Undercover and went on to do television and film.
