Transparency International defines bribery as the offering, promising, giving, accepting, or soliciting of an advantage as an inducement for an illegal, unethical, or breach of trust action. This includes active bribery (when someone offers or gives a bribe) and passive bribery (when someone requests, agrees to receive, or accepts a bribe).
The essence of bribery lies in exchanging an advantage to induce behaviour that is illegal, unethical, or a breach of trust, and it doesn't depend on the public or private status of those involved.
Bribery Act is not just about punishment. It is about prevention. It is about creating a society where integrity is valued above personal gain, where public service is seen as a sacred trust rather than an opportunity for self-enrichment.
