[NEWS] A repeat theft suspect is in custody after a brazen retail theft in Sacramento County. Sheriff’s deputies arrested 33-year-old Anthony Eastman after he allegedly stole merchandise from a Harbor Freight Tools, left the store, then returned and stole more items. Deputies located Eastman nearby with the stolen merchandise and drug paraphernalia. A records check showed he was on probation with three outstanding warrants. Store employees report Eastman had stolen from the same business six times in the past three weeks, with losses totaling several thousand dollars. Eastman was positively identified and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. [CITY WATCH] The Sacramento Fire Department is celebrating 176 years of service to the Capital City. The department traces its roots to February 5, 1850, when residents formed the first volunteer fire department in the western United States. [NEWS] A convicted felon is in custody following a firearms arrest by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Gang Suppression Unit. Deputies say 32-year-old Albert Green fled a vehicle stop Thursday evening before being tactically blocked and detained. A search uncovered a loaded, unserialized AR-style pistol with a round chambered, extended magazines, and a conversion device for automatic fire, along with a Glock 20 equipped with a switch. Green, a prohibited possessor, was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. [NEWS] An update this morning to a deadly house fire in Arden-Arcade. Fire officials confirm two people were killed in Tuesday night’s fire near Watt Avenue and William Way. Crews were dispatched around 10:15 p.m. and arrived to find heavy fire conditions at the back of the home. Firefighters initially located one person deceased in a bedroom. As crews continued searching the residence, a second person was found dead inside. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A jury has convicted Diamond Moore of second-degree murder and attempted voluntary manslaughter in a 2023 gas station shooting. Prosecutors say Moore shot and killed one man during an argument, then shot the victim’s brother in the head. The brother survived. Jurors also found firearm and great-bodily-injury enhancements true. Moore faces up to 73 years to life in prison. [NEWS] New details released about a Friday afternoon arrest in Rancho Cordova. Deputies responded to reports of a man possibly carrying a rifle on a Regional Transit bus near Routier Road and Ellenwood Drive. A loaded, unregistered rifle was found inside the suspect’s backpack. The suspect, 21-year-old Kanye Smithburns, was booked on weapons charges and later released on pre-trial probation. He is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. One person is dead and another hospitalized after a shooting Monday afternoon in Sacramento. Police responded around 1 p.m. to the 3200 block of Marysville Boulevard and found two men with gunshot wounds. One victim later died at the hospital; the second has serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Large portions of Hangingwood Park remain closed during the investigation. Police say the relationship between the two men is unknown. A man was shot Monday night in Sacramento County. Deputies responded around 9:45 p.m. near the 3100 block of Bradshaw Road. The victim was transported to a hospital; his condition is unknown. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. [NEWS] DEVELOPING NEWS: A fully involved commercial fire is burning at the former Bank of America building in the 1800 block of Del Paso Boulevard. The building is fully engulfed, with multiple fire crews on scene. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area of Del Paso Boulevard while crews work to contain the fire. No injuries have been reported at this time. This remains an active and developing incident. A short time later, a person possibly connected to the incident arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. An investigation is underway and a report has been filed. A police pursuit ended with an arrest near 3rd Street and P Street around 3:35 p.m. Officers attempted a traffic stop when the driver fled, leading to a brief pursuit.
