2 TIMOTHY 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 TIMOTHY 1:7 2 TIMOTHY 1:7Father, you are all-powerful, all-knowing, and almighty. You can move mountains and do wonders beyond my imagination. Be with me today when I begin to fear. Remind me that fear is not of you, and replace my fear with peace and love and a sound mind-with clarity. Walk closely with my loved ones today as they go in their own directions. Don't let them be overcome by fear or doubt, but instead fill them with a sense of your love. Thank you that I never have a reason to fear, for you have given me the strength to meet any challenge today. In your name I pray, amen.
Season 63

Blessing Before the Watching World

Blessing Before the Watching World How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. PSALM 31:19 NLT Have you ever looked at someone and noticed that the blessing of God is on their life in a remarkable way? Maybe they've received a clear miracle, or they have been inexplicably successful in their endeavors. Maybe they have an unearthly joy that flows out contagiously. No matter what the evidence is, you know without a doubt that the hand of God is on them. Many times when we first come to God, we come for protection-seeking salvation and security-and he gives us those things, but he doesn't stop there. He also gives us his goodness, his kindness, his love. And once we begin to receive the goodness of such a great God, the world takes notice. Thank you, God, that you lavish your goodness on me. I came to you out of gratitude for what your Son did for me. I came to you for protection from death and for eternal life. But you gave me so much more than that. You gave me your goodness. You gave me your blessings. Let the world take notice; and let them glorify you because of it.

Season 59

What is the importance of vigilance in a life of faith?

What is the importance of vigilance in a life of faith? Have you ever been late for a wedding because you missed your train or got stuck in traffic? Annoying, but if you weren't the bride, groom, bridesmaid or best man, you were probably let in anyway. It was a different story for some of the virgins in Jesus' parable. Five of the ten women had too little oil with them and when the groom came in the night, the five unprepared virgins had to fetch new oil. But when they returned, they were too late and were not let in. In the Bible, oil stands for the Holy Spirit. We are a vessel of God and should allow ourselves to be filled with the Spirit (oil) so that we can burn for Jesus. Jesus is the groom and the church is his bride. Jesus wants all people to be saved, which is why so many invitations have been sent out for this wedding. But not everyone will show up. And just as you can't be a week late if you don't want to miss your friends' wedding party, you can't delay your decision for Jesus forever, because the bridegroom will come at some point. We need to be prepared for the end times so that we don't stop burning. It is our personal responsibility to cultivate our relationship with God every day and to build up a personal supply of spiritual oil. We must allow the Holy Spirit to fill us daily so that our passion for Jesus does not die out when He returns. We regularly check the oil level in our car to ensure that the engine is not damaged. What about your oil level check regarding the Holy Spirit? Do you regularly take a spiritual inventory? Jesus regularly withdrew to be filled by God (cf. Mark 1:35). Not only in the storms of life, but also in the supposedly calm times, we should do as Jesus did and let the Holy Spirit fill us anew every day. Because only God knows when Jesus will return. So let us be ready to keep our oil lamps full and our hearts in constant readiness so that we can wait for the bridegroom with joy and expectation. Next Step: What is your “oil level”? Do you already know the fire of the Holy Spirit? Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what it means to burn for Jesus.
Season 58

Do Not Obey The Feeling

Do Not Obey the Feeling One thing I have learned about resentment is that it does not announce itself. It creeps in quietly. It may even feel justified. You replay conversations, remember betrayals, or think about what you wish you had said. Before long, a person or an event occupies more of your mind than you would like to admit. I found myself in a similar situation. I did not like what I was feeling, but I also did not know how to stop feeling it. I had prayed about it more than once. I had tried to ignore it, hoping time would eventually make it disappear. Instead, the resentment kept resurfacing. Different memories would bring back the same emotions. I got the opportunity to speak to a priest about it and a part of me expected that he would tell me how to pray about it. Instead, he said something different. "Resentment is a feeling." Before I could say anything, he continued. "It is a real feeling, but you do not have to obey it." That simple statement shifted something in me. I may not have been able to stop the feeling from showing up, but with God's help, I could choose whether it would dictate my actions. I could acknowledge what I felt without allowing it to determine how I treated people. That did not make the hurt disappear, but it reminded me that my emotions did not have to be in charge. That is often the hardest part, isn't it? When someone wounds us, every emotion tells us to respond in kind. To withdraw. To ignore them. To make them feel what they made us feel. Sometimes we even convince ourselves that because our feelings are valid, our reactions must be too. Yet Jesus calls us to something radically different. When He tells us to turn the other cheek, He is not asking us to pretend we were never hurt. He is inviting us to refuse to let hurt become our master. The world's response is retaliation. Christ's response is surrender. One keeps resentment alive. The other makes room for God to transform our hearts. This is not something we accomplish by trying harder. If it were, we would all fail. The good news is that God has given us His Holy Spirit. He produces in us the self control we need to resist the temptation to act on resentment. When resentment whispers, "Get even," the Holy Spirit gently reminds us, "Become more like Jesus." The apostle Paul understood this. He endured beatings, imprisonment, rejection, and false accusations, yet he entrusted justice to God instead of seeking revenge. He knew that God sees every wrong and judges perfectly. We do not have to carry the burden of making things right because justice belongs to the Lord. Perhaps today your resentment still feels just as strong as it did yesterday, and that is okay. Healing takes time. God is not asking you to ignore what you feel. He is asking you not to let your feelings determine how you respond. Every time you choose not to act on your resentment, the Holy Spirit gives you the strength to become more like Christ and to respond in a way that honors Him. Today, acknowledge the feeling without allowing it to become your guide. Ask the Holy Spirit for the grace to choose obedience over impulse, trusting that as you surrender your heart to God, He will continue His work of healing and transformation. Reflection Where is resentment trying to influence your actions today? What would choosing obedience to Christ look like in that situation?
Season 56

At The Crossroads

At the Crossroads This is what the LORD says: "Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls." But you reply, "No, that's not the road we want!" JEREMIAH 6:16 NLT Sometimes our journey of life stops us in our tracks and requires us to make a decision about which way to go. Some of us continue on the path we were headed, others run quickly in another direction, while still others take so long to decide that it seems they are forever standing at the same crossroad! God gave the people of Israel some clear directions on how to steer away from their inevitable path of destruction. First, we need to stop and evaluate our past and future situation. Second, we ask for the godly way, and then we walk in it. We can find the way through what has been written in Scripture. The Bible tells us a lot about who God is and how he wants his children to conduct their lives. Don't be stubborn like the Israelites and reply, "No, that's not what I want." Obedience will ultimately bring you peace. Lord, give me wisdom to choose the godly path that you have set before me. Help me to take time to stop and listen to your guidance. Allow me to rely on your strength to say yes to the right way.
Season 54

Beautiful Layers

Beautiful Layers For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 2 PETER 1:5-7 NIV The art of a painting lies not in what you see, but in the process that has gone into making it what it has become. Usually a painting begins with inspiration: an idea or emotion that wants to be expressed. It proceeds with sketching, color, texture, and variations in between. A painter rarely produces exactly what they originally pictured. Our life with God can be like a painting. It begins with our faith. Our belief in Jesus sets up our canvas, but the Scriptures call us to add to the depth of our faith by applying colors of goodness, knowledge, and self-control. The beauty emerges as we add perseverance, godliness, affection, and love. These things take time to develop in us. They can involve mistakes, and they can make us look very different. Do you need to add anything to your faith today? Will you make the extra effort to become beautiful by appiyıng goodness, perseverance, or love to your life? Thank you, Jesus, that you have begun a good work in me. I have faith in your saving grace. Today, Lord, I need to add some spiritual discipline to my faith. Help me to know you more, help me to control my emotions, help me to persevere, and help me to love.
Season 53

Summer & Winter

Summer and Winter The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon. It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter. PSALM 74:16-17 NIV Those who live in a cold climate understand that winters can get long. As the amount of daylight decreases, it's easy to find discouragement or depression creeping in. Sometimes this is a direct result of just needing more vitamin D to compensate for the lack of sunlight. But sometimes the Lord allows this to drive you to a place of finding a deeper degree of contentment in him. God created the seasons. They are his making. Winter treasures are like manna—the same manna would be rotten in the summer. Manna that is provided on a daily basis refreshes us and provides the kind of nourishment we need. God, help me to make the most out of this season. I don't want to live in complaint or wish away the winter. There are treasures to be found in this place that I don't want to miss.
Season 52

A Prayer Of Confession

A Prayer about CONFESSION When my sin separates me from God HEAVENLY FATHER, Today I'm feeling guilty about something I've done. I know you don't intend for me to live with this guilt, but it has a purpose: it prompts me to confess my wrong to you. Lord, you know that I want things to be right between us. I admit my wrong and receive your cleansing forgiveness. Because I have confessed my sin and turned away from it, you have promised to remove my guilt, restore my joy, and heal my broken soul with your forgiving love. Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.... Finaly, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, "I will confess my rebellion to the LORD. And you-forgave me! All my guilt is gone. PSALM 32: 1-3, 5
