How to Understand Your Podcast Analytics

In March 2026, we hosted a free training on podcast analytics, and it’s one you should catch the replay of if you missed it live. RSS.com Head of Relationships Greg Wasserman was joined by RSS.com Evangelist Joe Casabona for a behind-the-scenes walkthrough of podcast analytics across three key platforms: RSS.com, Apple Podcasts Connect, and Spotify for Podcasters.

What made this session unique? Joe pulled up his own real dashboards — live — and walked through exactly how he reads and acts on his data. Almost no one in podcasting is willing to show their actual numbers. Joe did, and the takeaways are immediately actionable.

What We Shared in the Training

RSS.com is your holistic source of truth. It shows downloads, listeners, geographic data, app breakdowns, episode comparisons, and more — all IAB-certified, with bots filtered out. Joe walked through how he uses the episode comparison tab to identify which topics resonate and where listeners drop off.

Apple Podcasts Connect reveals consumption. This is the big one. Apple shows you, episode by episode, how much of your show listeners actually hear. Joe found that one of his episodes had a 99% consumption rate while others hovered around 50–60%. He used that data to shorten his intro from four minutes down to 30 seconds. Consumption improved immediately.

Spotify shows you how your show gets discovered. Spotify’s discovery funnel breaks down how many people saw your show, how many clicked, and how many actually listened. Joe walked through his own numbers and explained how low search visibility is a cue to revisit your packaging. This includes your title, description, and artwork.

The Takeaway

Downloads alone don’t tell the full story. Use RSS.com for your big-picture view, Apple to understand engagement and retention, and Spotify to measure discoverability. Together, these three dashboards give you everything you need to make smarter content decisions and grow your show with purpose.
