Need More Jesus Is Enough For…
Need More Jesus Is Enough For… 1) My Worship “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.” (Colossians 2:9-10 ESV) We live in a world that is in constant pursuit of more. Whether it is money, power, fame, or anything in between, our society is largely discontent and searching for meaning. Thankfully, as followers of Jesus, we know that search is over. Jesus, who is fully God, fulfilled every requirement of God so that we could have a personal relationship with Him. Our worship, both inside and outside of church, should be marked by overwhelming gratitude for Jesus! 2) My Flesh “In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,” (Colossians 2:11 ESV) While the imagery of circumcision may seem graphic or uncomfortable on the surface, it helps to pause and consider what the ritual points to. For the Jewish people, circumcision was a visible demonstration of a spiritual reality: God’s people were to be set apart and trust in His provision rather than their own human effort. Jesus’ finished work on the cross, where He allowed His body to be broken for us, is the complete fulfillment of what circumcision pointed to. In those moments where you feel as though your desire to sin is too strong, take a moment to remember that you have been set apart and belong to His family. 3) My Death “having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.” (Colossians 2:12 ESV) No one likes to talk about death, largely because it carries so many unknowns. Entire industries exist to help people stay looking and feeling young for as long as possible, despite knowing that every one of us will eventually die. However, Christians are the only ones who can have true hope in the face of death because we know our Savior has already conquered it through His resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:55-57). Whether you are mourning the loss of a loved one or facing your own mortality, remember that eternity is fully secured for those who trust in Him! Big Idea: Society constantly tells us that we need more to be complete, but in Christ, we already have everything we need. Knowing that Jesus defeated sin and death enables us to stop chasing empty promises and live with unshakeable hope. Let’s Think About This: Question #1) In what areas of life do you feel the strongest pressure to chase "more," and how does knowing you are complete in Christ change that mindset? Question #2) How does remembering that Jesus broke the power of sin over your life help you when you face temptation? Question #3) Why does knowing Jesus defeated death give Christians real hope, especially when compared to how the rest of the world tries to deal with loss or growing older?
