InterviewTime -05- Justin Horn - $GME part II Cohen's Cone Koan

At 11:57 AM on Wednesday, February 24th, six days after the House Committee on Financial Services held a public hearing on the GameStop trade, activist GameStop investor, Ryan Cohen, tweeted a cryptic photo of a McDonald’s soft-serve ice cream cone with a frog emoji. The stock price jumped from $44.70 to $91.71 a share, and $30 Million worth of trades happened in the final hour of the market that day. On Thursday the 25th, the stock soared to a daily high of $183 a share and 145 million shares were exchanged on the heaviest day of trading since January, 26th. Within 24 hours of Cohen’s tweet, GameStop had gained roughly $4.4 billion in value. Philosopher, Justin Horn, returns to discuss the evolution of the GameStop Trade, the fall-out from the congressional hearings, the real meaning of Cohen’s ice cream cone, and how social media, and newfound accessibility for retail investors, is creating a disruptive era of volatility and opportunity in the stock market. InterviewTime -04- Justin Horn- $GME

On December, 3Oth 2020, the stock price of fading video game retailer GameStop, was valued at $18.84 a share. By January, 28th 2021, fueled by amateur investors leveraging social media, and commission-free trades via the addictive, game-like investment app RobinHood, the stock price had risen 1700%, to an all-time high of $483 a share, briefly making the company, once popular with millennials for selling used video game cartridges in shopping malls, more valuable than Delta Airlines, and leveling tens of billions of dollars of losses to several high profile Wall Street Hedge Funds. My guest Justin Horn, an academic philosopher, became an early investor in GameStop after following the compelling research posted on a bawdy retail investment subreddit called Wall Street Bets, by a user named deepfuckingvalue, who had bet his entire $53,000 life savings, that the Hedge Funds had exposed themselves to a short squeeze, by short-selling roughly 140% of its shares. In this episode, Horn and I examine the underlying thesis of the GameStop trade, discuss its narrative, political, and historical dimensions, and explore the potentially fatal consequences of our society’s relationship with risk. InterviewTime -03- Bob Lyren- No Direction Home

On January, 1st 2007, Bob Lyren, arrived in Manila on what was supposed to be a month-long vacation to visit friends. He stayed in Asia for the next 13 years, living and working for extended periods of time in the Philippines, Thailand, and most recently, Japan. In March of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world, he was forced to return to his hometown in Ohio. However, instead of spending the lockdown isolated and indoors, Lyren decided to take an open-ended, solo motorcycle trip across the United States, documenting his journey in a moto vlog called “No Direction Home”. In this episode, Lyren and I discuss his adventures traveling and living as an expatriate in Asia. How engaging with, and assimilating into, foreign cultures has enriched his experiences living abroad, and how going out on the road, and into the unknown, is helping him find his way back home. InterviewTime -01- Michael Wells- Regressionary Movements

Explicit
LOOK HERE: https://www.instagram.com/regressiona... The elegantly composed, often darkly funny, photos of faded suburbia, aggressively overgrown landscaping, shattered infrastructure, and haunted strip malls, featured on Long Beach-based photographer Michael Wells' Instagram account, Regressionary Movements, feel as if they were taken in our civilization's not too distant future. Wells, trained as an architect, and is interested in the different, and strangely original ways people utilize, repurpose, and adapt the spaces, and landscapes around them. In this episode, Wells and I discuss his creative evolution as a photographer, the meaning of Regressionary Movements, and his important work examining the weaponization of the Sonoran desert along the Arizona/ Mexico Border .
