Beautiful Things Often Start Small
Have you ever bought a plant from the store because it looked beautiful? You bring it home with great confidence. “This is going to look wonderful in my house.” Three weeks later you're standing over it saying: “What do you WANT from me?” More water? Less water? Sunlight? Shade? Encouragement? At some point you consider giving it a motivational speech. Plants have a way of keeping us humble. But the coffee plant has something particularly beautiful to teach us, because Coffee begins with flowers. Before there were coffee cherries, coffee plants produced beautiful blossoms. Coffee flowers are generally white and fragrant, and after successful pollination, cherries can begin developing where those blossoms once grew. Think about that the next time you hold a cup of coffee. Long before that coffee reached your kitchen, there was a flower. Then a fruit. Inside that fruit were seeds, the coffee beans that eventually traveled through many hands and processes before becoming the drink you're enjoying. That's quite a journey. And isn't our life like that? We often judge beginnings because they don't look anything like the finished result. A tiny opportunity doesn't look like success. The first conversation doesn't look like friendship. A first attempt doesn't look like mastery. And a coffee blossom certainly doesn't look like the cup of coffee sitting on your table. But beginnings aren't supposed to look finished. They're beginnings. Sometimes all we need to do is nurture what's been placed in front of us and give it time. Today's small act of kindness might become something much bigger in someone else's life. A phone call. An encouraging word. A smile. Sharing a cup of coffee with somebody who's having a difficult day. We may never know what grows from those little moments. So, for this coffee break, let's pour a cup of Snooty and celebrate beginnings. New mornings. New opportunities. New friendships. New ideas. And second chances. Because tomorrow morning, we get to begin again. And if the plant sitting in your living room still looks unhappy? Pour yourself some coffee and keep trying. Just don't pour the coffee on the plant. We've all got our limits. You can find Snooty and all our Cager's Coffee selections at www.cagerscoffeehut.com. Until our next Cager's Coffee Break, enjoy the little moments, give good things time to grow, and remember to keep brewing kindness one cup at a time.
