The superstition that a black cat crossing your path brings bad luck is one of the oldest and most enduring. The superstition may have originated from European folklore that claimed a black cat crossing your path by moonlight often meant death by epidemic. In America, black cats are often seen as a symbol of evil omens and are suspected of being from the family of witches or considered shape-shifting witches themselves. On the other hand, in Western culture, white is often associated with purity, goodness, and innocence.

A white cat appearing in your life or crossing your path could be interpreted as a sign of upcoming positive changes or divine intervention. They are also sometimes considered as bearers of good luck and prosperity. Did you know there are Cat deities for all cultures?
