Creating Wellbeing Through Personal Mastery and the Enneagram with Colin Adam
*** Please note: Colin refers to the diagram of the Enneagram - the picture for this episode is the diagram he is referring to *** Colin Adam will guide us through his conversation with Sue Fuller-Good and his intimate knowledge of the Enneagram to see how this tool and the insight it can bring us can help us find this elusive space of self-connection and calm. Originally from the UK, Colin completed undergraduate studies in psychology and post-graduate studies in career guidance, counselling, and adult education. He worked for a number of years in the field of career guidance & counselling and later gained in-depth experience in the design and implementation of a wide range of learning and organisational development interventions. After relocating to South Africa, he worked as National Training & Development Manager in a large financial services company and was closely associated with the Covey Leadership Centre whilst delivering Stephen Covey’s Principle Centred Leadership training into organisations. He founded Adfen International in 1994, where he co-developed the Adfen E-Scale assessment instrument based on the Enneagram model of human behaviour. He has been teaching the Enneagram and applying it in leadership and team effectiveness since the mid-1990’s. In fact, he pioneered the use of this model in corporate South Africa. He has in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Enneagram along with expertise in the practical application of this model in the areas of leadership, team effectiveness and personal development. In 2010 Colin became a founder of Ennea International (now Ennea International Group comprising FIVE LENS People Development, LearnSmartly and QCore IO). The focus is on designing, building and delivering world class products and learning processes that deepen personal and interpersonal awareness in individuals, leaders, teams and organisations and significantly elevate levels of effectiveness. Central to this work is the FIVE LENS online assessment which he co-developed. This assessment uniquely evaluates Personal Mastery, Emotional Resilience, Social Drives, Energy Centres, and the Enneagram to provide deep personal and interpersonal insight for individuals leaders and teams as a springboard for further growth and development. Colin is actively involved in certifying coaches, counsellors, and other professionals in the use of FIVE LENS assessments and materials. Colin is well recognised for his skill in designing and facilitating learning & development interventions, and the delivery of executive coaching. He has worked developmentally with all levels of management and leadership from first line supervisors to senior executives and CEOs in sectors including petrochemical, retail, financial, manufacturing, motor vehicle, government, tertiary education, entertainment/leisure and telecommunications. He has delivered work internationally including Denmark, Mauritius, Portugal, UK, USA, and various African countries. He is credentialed with the International Coach Federation at the level of Professional Certified Coach and was one of the first people to achieve this in South Africa. Colin has served on the faculties of the Centre for Coaching based at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business; and the Shell Business School, South Africa. He is married and has two daughters. He is an avid long-distance runner, and in addition to his work focus, has particular interests in music, poetry and travel.
