Catherine Boyd (Meg Ryan) is a mathematics doctoral candidate at Princeton University who starts to wonder whether her engagement to experimental psychology professor James Moreland (Stephen Fry) is worth it or might bog down her scientific prospects. Her famous uncle, Albert Einstein (Walter Matthau) decides to play matchmaker when sparks fly during a chance meeting with a local mechanic, Ed Walters (Tim Robbins).
